THERAPY, PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT

As founder and owner of Kane Psychology, I have been working with families in the Manhasset, Port Washington, and surrounding areas for six years. I completed my Clinical Psychology Ph.D at the Derner School of Psychology, with a concentration in Child and Family studies. Prior to my acceptance to this competitive doctoral program, I was valedictorian of my undergraduate class at Adelphi, with a double major in psychology and criminal justice. Mental health, particularly the mental health of young people, is my passion, and I have sought training and experience in a variety of scientifically informed treatments both during my formal training, and after. My therapeutic approach is warm and empathetic. From this trusting, collaborative stance, I challenge defenses and unhealthy patterns as needed in order to encourage growth.

During the past eight years that I have been in training and in practice, I completed specialized training for a variety of age groups and populations. At the Shelter Rock Academy, an alternate education program within the Herricks School district, I provided individual therapy, group therapy, evaluations, and crisis intervention to children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral challenges. In New York City’s Department of Corrections, I provided evaluations and short-term evidence-based therapy to incarcerated patients. As a psychology intern at Nassau University Medical Center on the child track, I provided outpatient individual and family therapy to high-needs children and adults, as well as intensive inpatient care on our acute child psychiatric unit. In addition, during this time I received specialized neuropsychological testing training within a medical setting. For the past four years, I have also worked as an adjunct professor in the undergraduate psychology program at Adelphi University, teaching classes in subjects including developmental psychology, psychology of gender, and writing in psychology.

I have worked closely with Dr. Linda Smith at Smith Psychology PLLC, receiving training and experience in play therapy, individual therapy with children and adolescents, parent training, and neuropsychological testing. Working with children and families is my passion. I am excited to found my own practice in the community that I love to continue providing quality, individualized mental health care and psychological testing to individuals and families.

THERAPY

My therapeutic approach is deeply rooted in social justice principles. I recognize how systemic inequalities, oppression, and discrimination impact mental health and strive to address these issues with cultural humility and sensitivity. I believe in fostering a collaborative and authentic therapeutic relationship centered around trust, respect, and compassion. Through our therapeutic work, we will work together to navigate life's challenges, cultivate resilience, and overcome mental hurdles by utilizing your own strengths to get you there.

In our sessions, I honor and validate the full range of emotions and vulnerabilities that may come up, recognizing that they are essential parts of our unique human experience. I provide a person-centered, strengths-based space and believe in a holistic approach.

My goal is to empower children, teenagers, and young adults to embrace their strengths, find their voice, and build a greater sense of self-acceptance and self-compassion. I am here to walk alongside them as they explore their feelings, identities, and build healthier relationships with themselves and the world around them. I provide a warm and supportive environment to process emotions, work through challenges, and work collaboratively towards reaching your goals and living a happy life.

THERAPY, PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT

I am a clinical psychology doctoral student at the Derner Center for Advanced Psychological Services at Adelphi University. I have completed my master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Teacher's College, Columbia University. I relocated to NY, USA, in 2015 from India, where I completed my bachelor's in Engineering.

Since last summer, I have worked closely with Dr.Kane as a testing extern conducting psychological testing and receiving training and supervision. As a part of my doctoral training, I am currently working as a psychology extern at Saint Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, providing evaluations, group therapy, and short-term individual therapy for severely and persistently mentally ill adults. Before that, as an extern at Derner Hempstead Children's clinic within the Hempstead school district, I provided individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, and evaluations to children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral challenges. In addition, I am also currently working as a student therapist at Derner Clinic at Adelphi university, providing long-term individual therapy to both children and adults.

In addition to my role as a therapist, I am working on my dissertation examining children and young adults' attachment relationships, empathy, adverse life experiences, meaning in life, and adjustment/emotional difficulties in parenting. The research findings have shaped my understanding of parenting and contextual factors like family relationships and culture. This perspective has strengthened my therapeutic knowledge and ability to work effectively with children and parents from different backgrounds.

Working with children, young adults, and their families have been the most gratifying part of my training. I apply my scientifically informed training, diverse background, and experience as an engineer and a working parent to individual needs in various areas. I approach therapy with empathy, flexibility, humility, nurturance, and appreciation to fit individual needs to create a comfortable environment where my patients feel related to and understood.

I am excited to continue working and learning in this community and provide top-quality individualized mental health care and psychological testing for individuals and families.

THERAPY, PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT

As a clinical psychology doctoral student at the Derner School for Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University, I have had the opportunity to work with a range of age groups from toddlers, high schoolers, and college students to mature populations.  I have provided therapeutic services on psychiatric inpatient units, in high schools, at college counseling centers, outpatient clinics, and at early learning centers. I have helped people to work through things like depression, anxiety, panic attacks, employment related stressors, marital challenges, and personality disorders. I’ve been a resident of Long Island for over 20 years, and I am committed to providing services to our diverse communities. I believe that making the decision to seek psychological services is a brave one, and I look forward to the opportunity to work with you in a non-judgmental way to meet your needs as a person.

As both a clinician and scholar, my interest in development throughout the lifespan has been a propelling factor for my career focus. I currently teach college courses at Molloy University, including courses like adolescent development and general psychology. I am a believer in the idea that what we learn in our lives helps to guide our experience, and I am thankful for the opportunity to bring the knowledge I’ve gained throughout my studies into the room in working with children, young people, and families.  I have a demonstrated history in providing therapy in both individual and group settings with individuals from many different backgrounds.  In addition to my doctoral training at Adelphi, I have been part of the team at Lenox Hill Hospital’s psychiatric inpatient unit, South Oaks Hospital in both inpatient and outpatient settings, and at The Door in Manhattan. Part of my focus is working with LGBTQIA+ youth and I have an extensive history of providing services to this population.

I am grateful to join the team at Kane Psychology and I invite you to reach out and have a conversation about how I can be helpful.

Meg Kane

THERAPY

Hi there! My name is Meg (they/ them). I am a psychotherapist in training and am currently finishing up my social work degree at Fordham University. I have experience treating children, adolescents and adults experiencing a wide range of concerns and have provided individual and group therapy within outpatient and school settings.

I like to think my approach as a clinician is primarily psychodynamic, focusing on how early experiences and relationships might contribute to concerns and difficulties today, while also exploring and establishing concrete solutions through interventions like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Exposure and Response Prevention.

I believe in the importance of a warm, collaborative, genuine, and supportive therapeutic relationship with the individuals I work with and I strive to meet an individual wherever they are at, providing a safe space within therapy.

My interests are centered around those with anxiety, depression, OCD, and chronic illness. Additionally, I am quite passionate about working with those in the LGBTQ+ community and providing affirmative care.
