What is Neuropsycholgical Assessment?

A neuropsychological assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of a child’s thinking, learning, behavior, and emotions. It helps us understand how a child’s brain is working—what’s going well, and where there may be challenges.

These assessments are especially useful for understanding concerns related to:

  • Attention and focus (e.g., ADHD)

  • Learning differences (e.g., dyslexia, math or writing difficulties)

  • Autism spectrum traits

  • Memory, organization, and planning (executive functioning)

  • Emotional regulation and mood

  • Social functioning

The process typically includes:

  • A detailed clinical interview with caregivers (and sometimes teachers or other providers; whoever you think may be helpful for us to talk to!)

  • Review of developmental, medical, academic, and behavioral history

  • Standardized testing to evaluate cognitive abilities, academic skills, attention, memory, language, social, and emotional functioning

  • Feedback session to go over results, diagnoses (if any), and individualized recommendations. Recommendations are provided both for school, and for home.

At Kane Psychology PLLC, we don’t just provide scores—we provide understanding. The goal is to give families insight into how their child learns, thinks, and feels, and to offer practical strategies and supports for home and school.
